Palin

August 29, 2008

Wow. Another fantastic choice. I can’t say I know too much about her true ideology. However from what I have heard, she seems a common-sense moderate. Those words are always comforting to me.

It was politically saavy. Not just because of the exploiting Obama’s weakness with the
Hillary voters. But because she comes with the fewest negatives. The other big potential choices for McCain (Romney, Pawlenty, Lieberman, Ridge) all had the potential to hurt his base a bit or activate the Dems a little more. Palin does not.

In other words, she won’t make conservatives uneasy about the ticket AND she won’t rile up Dems. With VP picks the rule of course is to “do no harm.”

Now that the tickets are locked in, I could not be happier with our options.

Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin is unbelievably superior to anything I could have hoped for.

Let’s Get Ready to Rumble

August 25, 2008

Good luck to everyone as we set out on another school year.

2008-2009 is the one we’ve been waiting for kiddies.

I, for one, am pumped. I hope you are too.

P.S. I miss all my C-U gang. Go dominate.

I like the choice. A lot.

Joe Biden is an intelligent smartass. It is almost impossible not to respect that.

101 Wishes

August 21, 2008

I recently tried a mental exercise that I read about. I have yet to accomplish it. It surprised me, because I thought it would be easier.

The task was simple: write down 101 things that you hope to accomplish in your life. There are no limits or barriers. The wishes/goals/dreams could be big things or small things. In any area of life: love, faith, career, hobbies, you name it.

Right now, I’m only at 45. Long way to go.

It illustrated how little I truly know about what I want. I have a few big ones down, but still. With no limitations, I struggle to get even halfway.

My gut tells me that my youth is only partly the reason for my struggles with this. I’d guess that many people (most?) of every age never exactly pin down what they want out of our time on this planet.

Hyper-Heterosexuality

August 19, 2008

Al passes along another gem. This time it is about unique research involving genetics and sexuality. The gist

“It helps to answer a perplexing question – how can there be ‘gay genes’ given that gay sex doesn’t lead to procreation?” says Dean Hamer of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, who was not involved in the work. “The answer is remarkably simple: the same gene that causes men to like men also causes women to like men, and as a result to have more children.”

And…

Camperio Ciani emphasises that, rather than being a “gay gene”, this unidentified genetic factor is likely to promote sexual attraction to men in both men and women. This would influence a woman’s attitude rather than actually increasing her fertility, making her likely to have more children.
