Dramatic Office

October 24, 2008

Did anyone else think this week’s episode of “The Office” was too much seriosuness and too little comedy?

Prop 8 Shenanigans

October 23, 2008

This happens in all campaigns.  However when it happens around an issue instead of a candidate, it is even more frustrating:

Anti-same-sex marriage people are telling people unaware same-sex couples to vote yes on 8. Their case is so weak that their strategy is now to just confuse people. Now, we don’t know how widespread it is, and obviously the Yes on 8 campaign would deny it if asked. But our campaign has received multiple reports from people saying they’ve been called.

The bad news is that now we have to divide our efforts between calling undecided voters and calling our own supporters to undo the damage. The good news is that we’ve raised enough money to expand our efforts.

The key is in bold.  What do you do when you are losing a debate on its merits?  You confuse.  You trick.  It’s sad, because this isn’t about one-upping a friend in a debate.  It affects millions of lives in real ways.

Sullivan on Blogging

October 17, 2008

A long form essay on why he blogs from the blogging God, Andrew Sullivan:

A blogger will air a variety of thoughts or facts on any subject in no particular order other than that dictated by the passing of time. A writer will instead use time, synthesizing these thoughts, ordering them, weighing which points count more than others, seeing how his views evolved in the writing process itself, and responding to an editor’s perusal of a draft or two. The result is almost always more measured, more satisfying, and more enduring than a blizzard of posts. The triumphalist notion that blogging should somehow replace traditional writing is as foolish as it is pernicious. In some ways, blogging’s gifts to our discourse make the skills of a good traditional writer much more valuable, not less. The torrent of blogospheric insights, ideas, and arguments places a greater premium on the person who can finally make sense of it all, turning it into something more solid, and lasting, and rewarding.

Kaylee’s Planning + Kyle’s Running = 2008 Chicago Marathon Success

October 16, 2008

Last Sunday, a one Kyle A completed the 26.2 mile Chicago marathon.  He dominated.  In preparation for his domination, a certain Kaylee G organized a cheering operation that surpassed all others in the city.  Well done…well done…

Evidence is below:

Tonight…

October 15, 2008

McCain needs something big to happen.  Nothing big will happen if he attacks Obama directly; he has already used that ammo. So…

Look for him to bring up the Democratic Congress all night.  He’ll say: “If Obama wins, the Democrats will have undivided control of the government…That Democratic Congress has been disasterous these last two years…We can’t have unchecked control right now.”

Baby Jesus Shark

October 15, 2008

He has arrived

Scientists have confirmed the second case of a “virgin birth” in a shark. In a study reported Friday in the Journal of Fish Biology, scientists said DNA testing proved that a pup carried by a female Atlantic blacktip shark in the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center contained no genetic material from a male.
